Cambodians launch attack to retake Angkor Wat
About 6000 Cambodian troops launch a major operation to wrestle the religious center of Angkor Wat from 4000 North Vietnamese troops entrenched around the famous Buddhist temple complex which had been seized in June 1970.Fighting continued throughout the month.Even with the addition of 4000 more troops the Cambodians were unsuccessful and eventually abandoned their efforts to expel the North Vietnamese.
